Proof and mint sets are produced for inspection purposes when a new design is implemented. On a few occasions, small errors have gone unnoticed by the US mint inspection process. These coins can be very valuable. All forms of United States coinage go through this process.

Today proof sets are produced in greater amounts for collectors. Historic and rare coins can be valuable depending on their condition.

US PROOF & MINT SETS

HOW MUCH IS MY SILVER DOLLAR WORTH?

Some US proof coins are produced in silver. However US coins in general circulation have not silver since prior to 1964. Some specially produced silver dollars, half-dollars, quarters, and dimes contain 90% silver. An example of a coin containing silver is the American Silver Eagle dollar coin. It contains one-troy ounce of silver. Some proof sets of silver coins can be very valuable.

US PAPER CURRENCY

Gold certificates were used in the United States in the late 1800s until being removed from circulation in 1933. These certificates entitled it's owner to their corresponding amount of gold coin. Gold certificates even in fair condition can be very valuable.

Silver certificates were circulated from 1878 to 1964. They represented their value in silver coins and silver bullion. Now they are valuable collectors items.
